Artist’s Statement

April loves to explore cultures through color. She has been involved in art her whole life. She has used a variety of media over the years, but finds watercolor and fluid acrylics are the media that allow her to paint more loosely and creatively. Watercolor and fluid acrylic have a mind of their own that she find inspirational. They require April to respond and allow the piece to develop in directions not fully planned – though that doesn’t mean she goes into a painting without a plan.

Texture and color, which she loves for its richness and ability to set a mood, are critical design elements she uses to catch the viewer’s eye. April looks for the same strength of color in watermedia as she achieved with oil, while maintaining the translucence only watermedia permit. April uses non-traditional textural approaches to enhance interest.
